Angelos Sikelianos – 70 Years in Memoriam

70 ΧΡΟΝΙΑ ΑΓΓΕΛΟΣ ΣΙΚΕΛΙΑΝΟΣ- ΑΦΙΕΡΩΜΑ

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the death of the poet ANGELOS SIKELIANOS, the Cultural Center of the Municipality of Lefkada is organizing a photographic exhibition and photographic projection of the artist – photographer Theodoros Papatrechas. The exhibition will take place in the art gallery “Theodoros Stamos”, in Marka Square, from 13 to 22 June 2021.

The dilogy “Skelianos – 70 Years”, is a photographic essay, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the death of the leading Greek poet. The photographic narrative includes images of the poet’s birthplace, framed by his lyrics and presented under the tones of the music of Nikos Skalkotas and Dionysios Klypsas, from Orpheus’s Mandolinata and under the direction of Kostantinos Tsintza.

The photographic lens of Theodoros Papatrechas, captures a refined reality to keep concentrated the distillate of another hidden innocence, endowed with poetic sensitivity and disarming simplicity. It is the same touching austerity of its people, which the poet saw from the balcony of his house in the old town. Where the perishableness of humble materials is deposed by its weight and goes back to pure poetry. The poetic image rewards the poetry of speech. An old rusty latch, a thousand-year-old wooden door, a wall, two stairs, decorate with improvised pots, may be the very soul of Lefkada.

The artist approaches them in awe and captures them with his lens, as priceless treasures. In his heart the lyrics of Sikelianos and in his eyes his city.  The result is a trilogy with photographic narration with lyrics and music, capable of traveling us to a different Lefkada. In Lefkada that those who love carry forever in them…

Thodoris Papatrechas studied photography at  Istituto  Europeo  Di  Designin Rome. He has traveled and lived in different cities (Milan, Rome, Budapest, Athens), from where he received artistic influences, was inspired and experimented; in recent years he lives and works in Lefkada.

Below are the links to 2 youtube videos which will be displayed in the exhibition.
